If your engine does not have any power, it could be that it needs to be replaced. If you drive a classic automobile with its original engine, the time may have arrived for the engine to be retired. Your automobile is a machine, and all machines reached the end of their lives eventually. An engine that cannot produce power no matter how much it is repaired is a sign that the engine has reached the end of its life. This is just one sign that your engine needs to be replaced. Here are other signs.
Contaminated Oil
The motor oil can get contaminated with metal shavings if the engine is disintegrating. This, too, can happen in classic cars with their original engines. Unfortunately, there isn’t a solution to repair this problem. The engine parts are literally dissolving, so replacing the engine is the only option. If you drive an older automobile, make sure to check the oil on a regular basis to ensure it is not contaminated with metal shavings. If it is, have your vehicle towed to our shop.
Continual Knocking
We may be able to get by with an engine rebuild if your engine knocks continuously while you are driving it. This is a sign that the rod bearings need to be replaced. These bearings are located in the cylinder block, so it takes quite a bit of work to get to them. This being said, rebuilding the engine is less expensive than replacing it, so opting for this repair option will save you money in the end. Your engine may also be knocking if there is a fuel detonation problem.
Continual Overheating
The engine can also generally be rebuilt if it overheats all the time. First, we will inspect the cooling system to see if this is the problem. If it is, we will repair it. In some cases, the cooling system may need to be replaced. This being said, the engine can also overheat all the time if there is more serious damage to it. For example, a blown head gasket will make it overheat.
Finally, your engine may need to be rebuilt if it is releasing a ton of exhaust out of the tailpipe. This is a sign that the engine has a severe fluid leak that needs immediate attention. To avoid damaging the engine further, have your vehicle towed to our shop so we can locate the fluid leak and fix it. We can also resolve any of the other issues discussed in this blog post.
